Job Description

Relate Search has partnered with a leading industrial manufacturer to identify a hands-on Shipping and Receiving Supervisor to oversee the organization's shipping and receiving operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring safe, timely, and efficient freight movement while leading a dock operations team and coordinating company drivers. The role will oversee logistics across multiple warehouses and outdoor yards.

The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong communication skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to improve operational effectiveness across logistics functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily workflows, schedules, and assignments for the shipping and receiving dock.
  • Oversee loading and unloading operations, ensuring freight is handled safely and efficiently. Transportation of product is done by, barge, rail, and truck.
  • Conduct daily inspections to ensure full compliance with internal policies and federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Monitor freight movement and dispatch using computer systems and logistics software.
  • Coordinate with the production planning team to align upcoming delivery schedules.
  • Train employees on safe lifting and loading techniques; monitor for compliance.
  • Evaluate the performance of dispatch and dock operations, identifying opportunities for process improvements.
  • Ensure that product handling, storage, and delivery practices align with customer expectations and company KPIs.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Strong supervisory and team leadership abilities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Effective time management and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Familiarity with overhead cranes, forklifts, barge/rail/truck operations, and warehouse-management systems.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards and workplace safety practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and logistics software for tracking inventory and freight.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proven ability to build, train and motivate multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and sit at a computer for up to four hours per shift.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to navigate the facility across uneven or industrial surfaces.
  • Must be comfortable working in varying temperature environments with moderate noise and odors.
