Job Description

The Instructional Design & Online Learning Specialist plays a key role in ensuring the quality and consistency of online course offerings at Crandall University. This position implements course enhancements and instructional design best practices under the direction of the Senior Director of Online Learning. The role also involves supporting faculty through training and technical assistance, developing online student orientation resources, and ensuring courses align with academic standards. Through these efforts, the specialist helps maintain a high-quality learning experience for students while supporting the university’s broader online learning initiatives.

Key Duties:

  1. Apply best practices in instructional design, integrating emerging educational technologies, including AI, multimedia, and interactive tools.
  2. Design, update, and enhance online courses to maintain instructional quality, consistency, and alignment with Crandall’s academic standards.
  3. Maintain consistency across online courses, ensuring alignment with academic standards and institutional goals.
  4. Implement educational technologies and tools as directed by the supervisor, ensuring their effective integration into courses.
  5. Assist in faculty training and student orientation by developing resources, co-facilitating sessions, and providing technical support.

 

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Educational Technology, Communications, or a related field is required. Formal training in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or Digital Learning is an asset.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a role related to instructional design, educational technology, or digital learning.
  • Proficiency in English is essential for this position.
  • Instructional Design Competency – Ability to apply best practices in instructional design for online learning.
  • Digital Tool Proficiency – Comfortable working with educational technologies such as LMS platforms (Moodle preferred), AI tools, and multimedia content creation tools (e.g., H5P; video and image editing is a plus), as well as collaboration and productivity software like SharePoint, MS Teams, PowerPoint, and Canva.
  • Technical Support & Communication – Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot LMS-related issues, create tutorials, guides, and instructional materials, deliver effective training sessions or technical workshops, and clearly explain complex technical concepts to non-technical faculty and staff.
  • Analytical & Creative Problem Solving – Able to assess instructional challenges and develop innovative, practical solutions that enhance course design, faculty support, and overall effectiveness.
  • User-Centred & Process-Oriented Mindset – Balances structured workflows with a focus on clarity and accessibility in digital learning environments, keeping the experience of both faculty and students in mind.
  • Adaptability & Learning Agility – Demonstrates a strong interest in emerging educational technologies and is comfortable adjusting to shifting priorities and exploring new tools as needs evolve.
  • Commitment to serving the mission and faith statements of the university and the long-standing and strong team approach in the Academic Office.
  • Organized, Proactive & Detail-Oriented – Manages multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining high standards for accuracy and consistency in course content and digital resources.
