Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Environmental / Safety Manager to lead compliance and safety efforts at our manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for managing environmental programs, ensuring employee safety, and maintaining full compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. You’ll serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and oversee all compliance-related activities—especially in the areas of air emissions, wastewater discharge, stormwater management, hazardous waste, and health and safety programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain annual environmental compliance plans (air, water, hazardous waste).
- Lead all HSE audits and inspections; serve as point of contact for EPA, OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory bodies.
- Prepare and submit required reports and permits (e.g., Title V Air Permits, SPCC, SWPPP, discharge reports).
- Oversee handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials; manage spill response and remediation.
- Conduct emissions monitoring and maintain compliance with environmental standards.
- Manage site health and safety programs in accordance with OSHA and company policies.
- Lead safety meetings, training, and incident investigations; ensure accurate documentation and reporting.
- Maintain internal certifications (ISO 14001 and ISO 45001); coordinate recertification processes.
- Perform annual Industrial Hygiene surveys and exposure sampling.
- Lead “Safe Start” and behavioral-based safety programs to enhance workplace safety culture.
- Manage Workers’ Compensation and injury prevention programs.
- Design and deliver written safety and training programs, including for new equipment and personnel.
- Implement Process Safety Management (PSM).
- Develop and maintain site-wide emergency response plans and technical safety resources.
- Lead monthly layered EHS audits across all departments to ensure continuous improvement.
- Oversee all waste management activities, including budgeting and scheduling.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 7 years of HSEQ experience, ideally in chemical manufacturing or industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of EPA, OSHA, DOT, RCRA, IATA, and related regulatory frameworks.
- Proven experience with Title V Air Permits, SPCC, SWPPP, HAZ Waste, and water discharge compliance.
- Familiarity with environmental compliance in ethoxylation/emulsion or chemical plants preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and foster a strong safety culture at all levels.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
- Proficiency with compliance databases and environmental reporting systems.
- Preferred certifications: CSP, DOT, IATA, HAZWOPER, CPR.
Team & Culture:
- Supports a team of approximately 40 employees.
- Works closely with plant management, operations, and engineering.
- Collaborates directly with external regulatory agencies and consultants.
