Summary and Purpose

The Director of Sustainability will serve as the lead facilitator for campus sustainability efforts.

This person maintains, develops, and expands programs and projects to advance the triple

bottom line performance of Aquinas College. This position works with all campus constituencies

including faculty, staff, students, contractors, and vendors to meet the institution's sustainability

and “Economicology” goals and vision. The Director of Sustainability also assists in securing the

adoption and implementation of college policies, the Laudato Si' Action Plan and educational

efforts for sustainability as key components to the mission.

Essential Functions:

● Maintain e-mail and phone correspondence with internal and external stakeholders

regarding sustainability issues, programs, and events.

● Update the AQ Sustainability Initiative website.

● Maintain accurate budget records.

● Facilitate the AQ Sustainability Initiative, the “formal” process for implementing

sustainability using the college’s governance structure and standing sustainability

committees.

● Maintain, develop, and expand programs and projects to advance nationally recognized

sustainability efforts of Aquinas College.

● Assist with sustainability-related conferences and events.

● Establish and oversee student-based programs

● Maintain accurate sustainability metrics for the college.

● Present sustainability initiatives to the Provost, Cabinet, and other groups as

appropriate.

● Act as a facilitator for the College’s transformational “Economicology” vision.

● Write grants and determine fundraising opportunities to support sustainability initiatives.

● Advance the College’s Laudato Si goals and communicate progress to the Vatican office.

● Implement and assess institutional goals, objectives, and /or initiatives related to

sustainability.

Qualifications

● Must have a Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university. Master degree

preferred.

● 5 years demonstrated sustainability experience in an educational setting.

● Must be able to establish effective working relationships with Aquinas co-workers and

members of the public.

● Experience working with diverse populations is a plus.

● Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable

accommodations.
