Assistant Professor Position in Special Education Teacher Preparation and Inclusive Practices (Dual License Program)

Starting in August 2026

The University of New Mexico, College of Education and Human Sciences, Department of Special Education, invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in the undergraduate Dual License program with expertise in the area of special education teacher preparation and inclusive practices. This UNM faculty member will extend the teaching, research, and service mission of the Special Education Department.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to (a) supervise students in field placements, (b) teach courses specific to the preparation of special educators to serve the diverse needs of students with disabilities, and (c) conduct scholarly work relevant to the preparation of pre- and in-service educators to work with preK-12 students with disabilities in inclusive settings. The faculty member will collaborate with colleagues in the Special Education Department and assist with the coordination of the Dual License program. This will include involvement in the recruitment and evaluation of potential cooperating teachers and collaborative decision making regarding the placement of teacher candidates, updating program participants progress, and ongoing collaboration with our program partners in conjunction with the Special Education Department faculty. We are especially interested in a candidate who can contribute to the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico through their teaching, research, and service. Successful candidates must be committed to working in the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico.
