Bridge communication gaps and empower deaf and hard-of-hearing students through our innovative virtual interpreting services. We're seeking skilled American Sign Language Interpreters to provide high-quality interpretation in online educational settings. This remote position offers flexibility while maintaining the meaningful connections that make interpreting rewarding.
Position Summary This virtual interpreting position focuses on providing ASL interpretation services to students in online learning environments. You'll work with students across various grade levels and subject areas, ensuring equal access to educational content and classroom discussions through our specialized virtual platform designed for educational interpreting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide simultaneous interpretation between ASL and spoken English in virtual classrooms
- Interpret for online lectures, discussions, and interactive learning activities
- Facilitate communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing students and hearing peers
- Collaborate with teachers to ensure optimal visual positioning and lighting
- Adapt interpreting techniques for virtual learning environments
- Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality standards
- Prepare for assignments through vocabulary research and content review
- Participate in virtual team meetings and professional development opportunities
Schedule and Service Delivery
- 35-37.5 hours per week of interpreting services
- Serve 15-25 students across elementary through high school levels
- Flexible scheduling to accommodate different class times
- Mix of individual and classroom interpretation assignments
- Support for core academic subjects and special classes
- Participation in virtual school meetings and events
Required Qualifications
- Minimum EIPA score of 3.5 (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment)
- 2 years of school-based interpreting experience
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and English
- Strong understanding of deaf culture and educational needs
- Excellent visual-spatial processing abilities
- Professional ethics and confidentiality standards
Preferred Qualifications
- EIPA score of 4.0 or higher
- Written EIPA certification
- Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or National Interpreter Certification (NIC)
- Experience with virtual interpreting platforms
- Specialized knowledge in academic subject areas
