Empower deaf and hard-of-hearing students through expert ASL interpretation in innovative virtual learning environments. We're seeking dedicated Educational Interpreters to provide high-quality interpretation services while working remotely. This position offers the opportunity to utilize specialized virtual interpreting platforms while maintaining the meaningful connections that make educational interpreting rewarding.
Position Focus This remote interpreting position specializes in providing ASL interpretation services for students in virtual educational settings. You'll work with students across various academic levels and subjects, ensuring equal access to educational content through our specialized platform designed specifically for educational interpreting in online environments.
Interpretation Responsibilities
- Provide simultaneous interpretation between ASL and spoken English during virtual classes
- Interpret for online lectures, interactive discussions, and multimedia presentations
- Facilitate communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing students and hearing classmates
- Collaborate with teachers to optimize visual presentation and classroom dynamics
- Adapt interpreting techniques for virtual learning platforms and digital content
- Maintain professional ethics and confidentiality in all interactions
- Prepare for assignments through content review and vocabulary development
- Participate in virtual team meetings and ongoing professional development
Service Delivery Model
- 35-40 hours per week of interpretation services
- Support 18-28 students across elementary through high school levels
- Flexible scheduling to accommodate various class schedules
- Mix of individual and group interpretation assignments
- Support for core academic subjects, electives, and special programs
- Participation in virtual school activities and meetings
Required Qualifications
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher
- Minimum 2 years of school-based interpreting experience
- Fluency in American Sign Language and English
- Strong understanding of deaf culture and educational interpreting practices
- Excellent visual-spatial processing and multitasking abilities
- Professional ethics and commitment to confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
- EIPA score of 4.0 or higher with written component
- Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification
- National Interpreter Certification (NIC) with written examination
- Experience with virtual interpreting platforms
- Specialized training in educational interpreting techniques
